Paris, France (Part 1)

We first arrived in Paris via the fast train from Amsterdam. What a delightful experience! We would choose a first class train ride over a flight any day.

Our first hotel in Paris was a former private residence that had been converted into a hotel and was located within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower. The location is across the street from a Metro (Paris's subway) stop ... extremely convenient to get around Paris.

We had two tours scheduled for our first day in Paris. The first was a small group tour of the Louvre.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about art and art history but had a little bit of the "parisian snootieness" that we'd heard about. The Louvre is an amazing place...so many paintings and sculptures that you have always heard about all together in one place!

Our 2nd tour was the nightime "illuminations" tour. It was a large group tour by bus and boat to see the lights of Paris. Unfortunately, immediately after getting our seats on the deck of the boat another boat whooshed by and a huge wave of water just drenched us. So our boat ride was a tad chilly and very wet.

Our second day in Paris we spent walking around and exploring the city. We walked along the Champs-Elysees, the Seine, and the Champ de Mars. Lots of beautiful old and grand buildings, lots of gold, lots of lights.
